Camper Season Preparations

Camping season is right around the corner! Before you take your camper to your preferred campsite, now is the time to start preparing your camper. Below is a guide for dewinterizing and some RV accessories your camper needs before camping season starts this year.

Prepare Your Water Systems

Your water system plays a critical role in your RV maintenance. To prepare for winter, you probably added antifreeze to your plumbing to prevent your system from freezing. This means that you’ll have to work on treating your water system with a couple of easy steps. To get your water system ready, you’ll first have to make sure that the antifreeze is removed from the plumbing system and sanitize the water so that it will be safe for you and your family.

To ensure the water is safe to drink, you’ll need to flush out the antifreeze.

Here’s an Easy Video Showing How to Sanitize Your RV’s Fresh Water System:

Double Check Batteries

As pointed out by RV Trader’s blog, RV batteries while in storage can lose a great deal of their charge. In fact, the blog states that a battery can lose upwards of 10% a month while being placed in storage over the winter.

Recharge those batteries with RV battery chargers. Check your batteries before you head out for your summer camping, so you don’t have to worry about losing power while you’re enjoying your favorite camping spot.

Check Your Tires

Even if you don’t live far away from your preferred camping spot, checking your tire pressure is an essential part of getting your camper ready for camping season. If you have questions about air pressure for your RV tires, check out this Goodyear Tire air pressure guide.

Need something to check your RV’s tire pressure? For checking your tire pressure, we recommend the Bon-Aire Atp50 removable digital tire gauge.

New Air Filters

While you are in the process of dewinterizing your RV, don’t forget to change the air filters in your RV. While this step may seem small, changing your filters plays a significant role in your air quality and your overall RV maintenance.

Change your air filters before camping season with this Dometic air filter kit.

Check the Water Pump

As pointed out by this RV blog, the final step in dewinterizing your RV is checking to make sure the water pump is working correctly. To do so, you’ll need to turn off the outside water and turn on your electric pump. Next, ensure your faucets are all closed.

You’ll have to wait a while for the pump to reach its full pressure level. When turned on, the pump should eventually stop running. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to check if there’s a leak in the line or the pump.
