Best boating lakes in the US

Boat & RV Accessories can help you find some of the best boating lakes in the U.S. for your next great expedition.

The best lake in the U.S. is the one closest to your home, so you can get to the water easily, whenever you want. But if you have the travel bug and a decent trailer, you can plan a road trip to a fantastic lake for a memorable boating vacation.

We've looked across the country and spotted some lakes that look like outstanding vacations, offering unique experiences for all sorts of boaters. If you have any recommendations, send them to us. We love talking to boaters and hearing about their adventures.

Lake Tahoe, bordering California and Nevada. The largest freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada offers outstanding mountain views, and shockingly crystal-clear water.

Lake Superior, bordering Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The name is apt, because this is the largest of the Great Lakes, and the largest in the world by surface area. It is so big that it holds 10 percent of all the fresh water in the world - maybe we should call this lake a freshwater ocean.

Lake Powell, bordering Arizona and Utah. Have you ever wanted to go boating in the desert? It's possible here. Nestled in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, it offers 2,000 miles of shoreline and 96 major canyons. That means the scenery is filled with golden sloping stones and rugged mountain views.

Table Rock Lake, southwest Missouri. Lake of the Ozarks steals all the attention for Missouri lakes, but the southern side of the state has some fantastic lakes. Table Rock Lake offers plenty of public marinas and resorts with boating sensibilities, so you can enjoy a day on the water and a night at a Branson show.

Lake George, New York. Another lake with incredibly clear water, the state rates the water of this lake the same as drinking water. So, many of the homes along the shore draw water directly from it. That's partly because of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains surrounding the lake. The Narrows is a passage holding more than a dozen islands.

Grand Lake O' the Cherokees, northeast Oklahoma. Sailors enjoy the lake's predictable winds, and anglers love the outstanding bass fishing. A 1,300-mile shoreline traces through state parks, waterfront resorts and secluded coves, and nearby towns offer plenty to do.

Fontana Lake, western North Carolina. This hidden gem may appeal to boaters who appreciate a more rugged, natural experience, because Fontana Lake does not offer as many amenities. Emerald green waters sparkle and the Great Smoky Mountains stand proudly. There are plenty of hidden coves to discover.

Lake Okeechobee, Florida. The Sunshine State, known for its beaches along the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, also offers fantastic freshwater boating, and "The Inland Sea" is probably the best example of that. It even offers a connection to the Intracoastal Waterway on both coasts, allowing for unique mini-loop cruises.
